The Green Rural Equitable Transformation (GREET) Model

The Keletso Community Development NPC (KCD) “Green Rural Equitable Economic Transformation (GREET)” project plan, is based on an Integrated Community Development Model (ICDM). It is a community-led strategy to support holistic, realistic and comprehensive community development, driven by a network of community members and stakeholders.

The GREET Model Description

The model is a blueprint that residents, community-based organisations, government agencies and the financial and philanthropic sector can own, build upon, and incorporate into their agendas. The development of the GREET Project (using the ICDM approach) is aimed at being a holistic development solution. The engagement process that has been undertaken to date is just the start. A critical next step is to further define and develop implementation plans for these recommendations and identify and develop partnerships and resources that advance them over the short, medium and long-term.

The GREET Project has been developed with the goal of ensuring that local community members are protected, and that prosperity gained from increased investment flows to all members.

As part of the ICDM process, Keletso Community Development NPC (KCD) will conduct a comprehensive community audit to assess recent and future development in order to explore how residents and community leaders have been, and can be, included in these efforts. They will assess how residents and community organisations are able to negotiate with investors and gain leverage in development processes, which is an important component of how the recommendations in the GREET Project will be realised.

Lastly, the GREET Project will be enhanced by two additional efforts that complement the efforts outlined in the project plan: asset mapping and creative place-making. GREET will explore the integration of community assets, such as schools, health centres, and parks, into future planning intended for “whole community upliftment”.
